Risks of using NAS as recording storage

Because of the following risks NUUO does not recommend using NAS as recording storage.

1.)It would not be possible to save recordings if the network drive became unavailable.

2.)The throughput of NAS decreases after running a period and causes frame drop of recording or database loss.

Throughput comparison of NAS and local hard drive

The comparison shows that the throughput of NAS is around one third to one fourth of the throughput of local hard drive in average.

  • Test tool: CrystalDiskMark
  • Throughput of NAS (D-link DNS-343; HDD: Seagate SATA-II 3Gb/s 1TB 7200RPM)

  • Throughput of local hard drive (HDD: Hitachi SATA-II 3Gb/s 320GB 7200RPM)

iSCSI as an alternative

If big storage is required for long term recording, iSCSI is recommended.

All iSCSI in the market should be compatible to NUUO. So far the model of iSCSI tested by NUUO is VessRAID 1730i.More information please contact eHelpdesk.

We will keep update the supported list of iSCSI.
